The PVCA Inaugural 4th of July Community Parade was a spectacular success, bringing together neighbors to celebrate Independence Day in unforgettable style!
A highlight was our Grand Marshal, 100-year-old OPV resident Ret. WWII Corporal John Krehel, who led the parade, proudly wearing his Uncle Sam hat as he rode in a red convertible '63 chevy. John's son, grandson and great-grandson all rode with him.
After receiving a blessing by Christ Church Rev. Deacon Lelia Quinlan and reciting the pledge to the flag, led by Scout Troop 9297, the entourage departed Christ Church to a route lined with enthusiastic parade watchers. About 40 golf carts, 50 bikes, many scooters, strollers & wagons, 15 dogs, and Station 10's fire rescue truck & fire engine set off at 9:00 a.m.
From our local sheriff department, we were fortunate to have Deputy Sheriff Tedder, Commander Edenfield and Sergeant Matuse to ensure that all of our fun was also safe!
The celebration wrapped up with prizes being awarded for Most Patriotic (the Powell family), Best Golf Cart (the Waugh family), Best-Dressed Dog (Chelsea Waugh), Best Scooters (Emory Jones with runners-up Bennett and Sydni Conk) and Best Bike (Augie Kirk with runner-up Ben Shuck).
A big thank you to our local businesses who contributed our prizes: Sierra Grill, Turner Ace Hardware, Fresh Monkey, V Pizza, Foxtail Coffee, Pawgrass Pet Spa and Chubby's.
Thank you to all who participated in the parade by riding in it or by supporting it with your cheers. By popular demand, our Independence Day parade will be an annual tradition.
